Around the Interwebs v.1

around the interwebs

MyBodyGallery.com: A collection of real womens photos, search-able by several factors (height, weight, body shape) to help people get a healthier grasp of what people really look like, and how they can differ, even when they’re the same measurements.

Saving a Humpback Whale: A wonderful video of bio-tourists who come across a young Humpback whale entangled in a fishing net. They free her, and her joy at being saved will make you need a tissue – so stay until the end! :)

Pet Treat Recall: If you own dogs, chances are you’ve purchased these. While not an official recall, the death total now is 17 pets. Let’s put off these until the all-clear!

New Spanking Study: As an advocate to “use our words” and show children, via our own actions, that even the toughest situations can be talked through and assigned consequences without needing to physically vent our frustration, I’m happy to see longer term studies being done.

We Like the Moon: Because if my posting the “song that never ends” on Facebook wasn’t enough to annoy you – remember this gem? (I not-so-secretly still love it)

If you have a GoogleReader to manage all your blogs, you may feel a little overwhelmed and visually underwhelmed all at the same time; and if you’ve been blogging for decades, before Twitters and Pinterests and Tumblrs and Facebooks and Diggs and Stumbles and Lions and Tigers and Bears (OH MY), you may MISS the design element and sidebar views and accessibility to pages that a reader doesn’t bring.

Well HERE is a fantastic article that brings back some of the beauty (literally) to blogging. Don’t miss it, or the insight to the awesome Google Next Button! And big thanks to Erin for showing it to me! :)

three soap scents on etsy

I love when I come across not only a lovely product on Etsy but a shop owner who is equally charming and sweet. Nothing is less fun that putting your hard earned dollars toward an independent artist who is, shall we say, lackluster? So the first thing I adored about Christy is that, much like her products, she is ADORABLE.

quote from the soap chick

She’s a rescued puppy mama & crafty lady extraordinaire — and her bubbly personality shone through every time we chatted! ;) Alongside allowing me to review her White Tea & Ginger Soap (see below), she’s also letting you:

Plugins make blogging just a bit easier. Which just means that, as usual with anything blog-related, that I’m the last person to have discovered them. ;) Without any further ado, here are a few of my faves:

Better Comments Manager: Better Comments manager allows me to view your comments post wise, it also allows me to reply from within the admin panel, meaning I can reply to comments on different posts without having to go to each of those different posts.

Cute Profiles: It’s not the best thing ever, but I appreciate having my little vertical button on the left side with all my social media links. I have more social media accounts than I know what to do with, and it’s a nice and simple way to display them for readers.

Executable PHP Widget: If you enjoy hand-coding some of your php in your sidebar widgets, you’ll notice you can’t. Many widgets won’t excute (aka properly display) the php script and you just end up seeing the actual coding text. This plugin has a few kinks (ie I can’t put any text widgets after it if they contain JS or they won’t display) but it has been a life saver, especially with wanting more sidebar title control in Thesis!

Thesis OpenHook: If you run Thesis, this is a must have! Easily tweak and control more with less hassle!

Wordpress Editorial Calendar: Last to the ball game on this one, but love love LOVE it! I’m a visual person, and being able to click “Calendar” and see where posts are is helping me realize where I tend to lack, what’s coming up, etc. My only complaint is my older version of WP won’t let me actually use the drag & drop feature? Anyone else? But other than that, loooooooves it!

What are your favorites?
